Fasten your seat belts because she is about to shut down London on June 8, 2024 with her 50th birthday party. She has started storming your timelines with beautiful photos and videos already but wait, it’s going to be a banger! Award-winning Fabric Merchant, Adejoke Ola Braimoh runs the popular London Fabric store, Lajokes Fashion. The business which has been on for almost 24 years is headquartered in London, United Kingdom. In the same vein, LajokesFashion cannot be shoved aside when mentioning names of top fabric stores run by Nigerians abroad. Beautiful Mrs. Braimoh speaks to Owambevibes on her forthcoming high octane party
Owambevibes: Congratulations on your forthcoming birthday.. how does it make you feel?
Being 50 comes with different feelings but topmost is gratitude. This is because being a Christian and a Yoruba I see a convergence of thought in the verse of the Holy Bible that “In all things, give thanks” and the Yoruba truism that “it is only the reflective that would be appreciative.” So, in terms of feeling, these two philosophies underpin the way I feel about being alive, being a daughter, daughter-in-law, sister, wife and mother. Again, the Bible tells me that it’s not by might but purely by God’s grace. The feeling is that of reflections, gratitude, and optimism.
Owambevibes: How do you plan to celebrate your new age?
As you know, plans are in top gear to bring my friends and loved ones together later in June this year. We intend to start with a night of praise here in London. The reasons to thank God are countless ranging from acknowledging Him as my maker, sustainer and cherisher. Of course I believe God inhabits the praises of His people therefore, my birthday or day of arrival offers a rare chance to openly acknowledge, and appreciate within a congregation of well wishers. So, on June 4, 2024, invitees to the night of praise are already looking forward to the day with a top praise leader coming in from Nigeria and it promises to be a day of lifting holy hands and hearts in appreciation, celebration and supplication. So please pray along with us as we look forward to having you there. On the weekend, specifically, June 8th, with top musician coming from Nigeria as climax of the celebration and appreciation, with friends & family flying in from Canada, America, Ireland, and Nigeria and all over the United Kingdom.
Owambevibes: Tell us what is on your mind now that your birthday is fast approaching?
On my mind is nothing but praises and prayers for the day and beyond. This is in addition to putting in place the necessary logistics for the event. Bearing in mind that we have barely a couple of days to the event, the logistics, coordination meetings and all other things are on my mind. Ensuring that attendees have a pleasant and memorable experience is also on my mind.
Owambevibes: What are the lessons you have learnt over the years?
Lessons are learnt daily, and you agree with me that hindsight is always the best sight. I think instead of regrets, I can tell you that life has taught me so many lessons. The biggest room in the world is the room for improvement. I have learnt and I keep learning as a wife, sibling, business leader, sister and mother. You would agree with me that these are roles that require uniquely different skill sets to ensure balance and sustainability.
Owambevibes: How did you achieve turning your business into a big brand?
If the Lord does not build, whoever does, labours in vain and you know that we cannot have anything except we are given. This is why I would first and foremost ascribe how far we have come as a brand to God Almighty. On the human front I would say we prioritise customer satisfaction, we network globally and we ensure that our goods and services are conveniently delivered without compromising quality.
Owambevibes: How did you get into fabric business? Why did you choose that line of business?
My father of blessed memory (Alhaji Afolabi Sodeinde) was a successful fabric merchant, so this is a trade I was born into. As a child I was nick named “Omo Aso”, I was told that I love to dress up, never liked to repeat an outfit.
Owambevibes: What kind of person is Lajokes?
Lajokes is a consummate business woman, a doting wife, firm and caring mother most importantly God fearing
Owambevibes: Tell us about the support you have gotten from your husband and kids
Indeed, they are my priceless gifts from God Almighty and I lack words to precisely state how much they are valued. I am also glad that they themselves know that nothing comes before them and there is no river I cannot cross to make them happy and fulfilled.
